Northern Accelerator funding call now open

Does your research have the potential to create commercial impact as a spin-out company? Northern Accelerator funding call now open

Applications are invited for the next round of Northern Accelerator pre-incorporation funding – helping academics take promising new research outcomes closer to commercialisation.

Applications must be submitted by 26th November 2021.

Northern Accelerator is a partnership between Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside Universities and is funded by Research England and ERDF. The initiative has already provided funding to 66 projects across the five universities, investing over £2.8million to allow them to progress the commercial potential in their research.  Many of our previous projects have now gone on to spin-out as successful and growing businesses. The application panel is particularly looking for projects that have potential to spin-out as new companies and those applications will be given priority. Large licensing opportunities will also be considered.

Northern Accelerator provides a whole range of support to help academics progress commercial opportunities, including training via our Ideas Impact Hub and our Executives into Business programme which matches talented business executives with opportunities to lead a spin-out company at an early stage.

For a discussion about making an application for a feasibility or proof of concept award, Lizzie Withington (lizzie.withington@newcastle.ac.uk).
