Parliamentary Academic Fellowships

The Knowledge Exchange Unit at UK Parliament is due to open a new call for their Parliamentary Academic Fellowships Scheme on 31st January. The Scheme gives university-based researchers the opportunity to participate in a fellowship project with an office in Parliament for up to a year.

This will be a Directed Call, with UK Parliament seeking academic input for 12 pre-determined projects. Details of the projects are due to be published here: POST’s Parliamentary Academic Fellowship Scheme – Directed Call – UK Parliament The nature and time commitment of each fellowship will vary depending on the project, but those running the scheme have indicated that there is plenty of flexibility built into the fellowship to allow part time and/or remote working, with only a few trips to London required. An online information session, led by the Knowledge Exchange Unit at UK Parliament, will run on Wednesday 9 February, 12:00-1:15pm; you can register here: Parliamentary Academic Fellowship Scheme 2022 – information session Tickets, Wed 9 Feb 2022 at 12:00 | Eventbrite

Interested applicants must apply directly to UK Parliament no later than 13 March, as per instructions on their website. Applicants should expect to hear the outcome of their application and, if successful, be invited to interview in April 2022. Depending on timelines for security clearance, fellowships may begin from June 2022. Detailed guidance notes can be found here: guidance_notes_for_applicants_pafs_2022.pdf (parliament.uk)

Costs associated with undertaking the Fellowships will not be covered by UK Parliament. Instead, we will run our own light-touch internal funding scheme for HaSS staff to cover costs such as travel, subsistence, accommodation, and, where appropriate, teaching cover, time, and any other associated expenses. To apply, please complete the application form available here: Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences – Funding for Impact Activities (sharepoint.com) Please submit your funding application form to hass.researchteam@ncl.ac.uk no later than Friday 4 March, although we encourage you to discuss your application with Eris Williams Reed (eris.williams-reed@ncl.ac.uk) before this date.

Please send any queries relating to the internal funding process to Eris; and any queries relating to the Fellowships to the Knowledge Exchange Unit at UK Parliament (keu@parliament.uk).
