EPSRC deadline. Trustworthiness of autonomous robotic systems for national security and defence

For general interest, please see the following EPSRC funding opportunity that you may wish to share with social science researchers within your institution:

Trustworthiness of autonomous robotic systems for national security and defence

Please note that the deadline for EOIs of the 18th April 2022.

EPSRC, in collaboration with NSTIx, are running a Sandpit: trustworthiness of autonomous robotic systems for national security and defence. EPSRC is interested in the outcome projects including social science components and/or researchers.

Possible social science aims may include:

  • Risks to people and society of gaps between simulations and real-world operation. What are these risks and ethical implications, and how are they mitigated and regulated?
  • What are the human factors that have implications for cybersecurity of these systems?
  • What are public opinions on the use, risks, costs and ethics of these technologies, how can we measure these things (and how they currently measured, strengths/limitations of current approaches), and are their mis/dis-information challenges around this activity?

Key dates:

  • Closing date for expression of interest: 18th April.
  • Sandpit dates: 23-27 May.
  • July proposal submission.
  • Autumn final funding decisions/awards made.
