2022 Northeast Digital Marketing Conference, 4th July 2022

The 2022 Northeast Digital Marketing Conference was successfully held at Newcastle University Business School on 4th July. With the acceleration of technology development, the conference provided a platform for researchers to form communications and debates regarding contemporary customers and businesses around the world under the current challenges from the pandemic, geopolitical relationships, turbulent market and a recessed economy.

The conference has attracted academics and practitioners in the area of marketing and digital technology from the industry and a wide range of universities in the UK, China, the U.S., France, Spain, Australia and Malaysia. Conference attendees had vibrant and active discussions on topics covering from customer engagement in online communities, the role VR and AI played in consumer decision-making, how technology played in fashion retailing to customer digital device adoptions. They had the opportunity to explore research and practical ideas on how companies may transform their businesses through the adoption of digital technologies such as AI, service robots, AR and VR.

At the conference, six keynote speakers shared with participants important perspectives on the future of digital marketing. Professor Xiao and Dr Long from Durham University presented their ideas on the application of machine learning in analysing social media big data; Professor Rong from Tsinghua University offered an inspirational research agenda along an IBCDE framework for the digital economy; Professor Filieri from Audencia Business School discussed how to detect tourists’ expression of destination love via social media. Dr Chaudhuri shared insights into how data-driven innovation has been applied in industries and how they could be connected with research; Finally, Dr Hyder from Universidad Miguel Hernandez gave a speech on customer engagement choice sets on commercial websites. With the successful launching of the 1st Northeast Digital Marketing Conference, the conference organisers look forward to attracting more researchers and practitioners to share their research and ideas at next year’s conference.
