AHRC: Green Transition Ecosystems – pre-announcement and events

I am pleased to announce that the pre-announcement for the Green Transition Ecosystems call has now gone live.

Green Transition Ecosystems (GTEs), part of the Future Observatory: Design the Green Transition programme, are large scale projects that focus on translating the best design-led research into real-world benefits. Capitalising on clusters of design excellence, GTEs will address distinct challenges posed by the climate crisis, including but not limited to realising Net Zero goals. Each GTE will identify the green transition challenge(s) it is uniquely able to address and develop a programme of research and innovation activity tailored to addressing them through high-quality, multidisciplinary and intersectoral design research. The challenge(s) each GTE seeks to address should require and promote the sustainable integration and leadership of arts and humanities design research in multidisciplinary fields of study related to net zero and the green transition. GTEs will connect directly with the wider Future Observatory: Design the Green Transition programme.

To help promote the call with our community and in anticipation of the full call launching in January 2023, AHRC and Future Observatory are running a series of events in October and November where you will be able to hear more about the scheme and ask questions. The first of these is a virtual Q&A event. This event will enable you to:

  • learn about Future Observatory and how the GTEs will connect with the wider Future Observatory: Design the Green Transition programme
  • receive guidance on the scheme aims
  • identify whether the scheme is a good fit for your project or partnership
  • ask questions of the panel (including representatives from AHRC and Future Observatory)

If you are interested in attending please register here.

There will be a further event at Design for Planet where you can hear from Justin McGuirk, Programme Director for Future Observatory: Design the Green Transition, and Katherine Mansfield, Senior Investment Manager for Design at AHRC. You can register here.

We are also running outreach events in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland during November. More information will circulated about these events at a later date. There will be an event at the Design Museum in London in January 2023.
