Decolonising the University Within and Beyond the Curriculum

It is a pleasure to announce the University of Winchester’s third institutional Decolonising the Curriculum (DtC) event, taking place on Monday 6 – Friday 10 February 2023.

We are excited to invite you to take part in this event by submitting your proposal for an online presentation or workshop. At the University of Winchester, we realise that there is a huge amount of practice surrounding DtC in the sector where would love to learn from external colleagues.

We welcome submissions from all areas of the University, including student-staff submissions and submissions from professional services staff.  We welcome submissions covering diverse questions, approaches, and experiences, and emerging from varied disciplinary contexts, as well as those examining University-wide initiatives and processes.

This year’s theme encourages colleagues to explore approaches to decolonisation both within and beyond the curriculum, examining the structural, social, cultural, and educational spheres of meaningful decolonialisation. Suggested topics for submissions include, but are not limited to:

  • Practical approaches to decolonising curricula, pedagogical approaches and learning environments.
  • Examples and case studies of how this work is being explored and undertaken locally (at the modular, programme or department level).
  • Examples and case studies of staff and/or student work that examines questions of race and representation.
  • Collaborative efforts to create change across different areas of the institution, including through staff-student partnership.

Please complete this form to submit your proposal by 9am on Monday 19 December 2022.

For any queries or further information, please do not hesitate getting in touch with Maisha Islam and Elizbeth Munro.
