Wellbeing Wednesday – LGBTQA+ Support

Welcome to this edition of the Business School Wellbeing Wednesday Update.  We hope you are safe and well.

Each Wednesday (during term time) we will post a staff blog highlighting wellbeing support that is available to Business School students within the School and from across the university to allow staff to pass on the information to students.

Upcoming events

Table TenNUBS

Are you interested in playing table tennis on Wednesday afternoon? Great! This activity is free for all students to use on the last Wednesday of every month and is a great way to socialise and have fun! Sign up here to play today (22/02/23) and encourage your course mates to give it a go too!

Spotlight on LGBTQA+ Support

Newcastle University Student Health and Wellbeing Services is fully dedicated to ensuring that our University is fully inclusive and supportive of all members of the community.

We recognise that students may wish to discuss specific support and advice without the need to approach lots of people. We provide an Initial Point of Contact (IPC) within the Student Health and Wellbeing Service who can support and advise students about their options i.e. how to get your name and gender changed on university records. The IPC can be contacted by email at inclusive@ncl.ac.uk

Confidential, tailored support is available for any student concerned about transgender and/or non-binary issues and we encourage you to contact your Student Union Welfare and Equality Officer or or Part-Time Officers or the Student Wellbeing Service so we can collectively explore your needs and the support options available.

Newcastle University Student Union LGBT+ officer

The LGBT+ officer is elected annually and represents LGBTQA+ students on your student union council. The officer raises awareness around campus and works to combat homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. Email lgbt.union@newcastle.ac.uk  if you need any advice on university related LGBTQA+ issues or if you want to see something change at university in relation to LGBTQA+ staff and students.

Newcastle University LGBT+ Society

This is a social and support network for all LGBT+ students. The society aims to ensure that all LGBT+ students gain the most out of their time at Newcastle. The society raises awareness around campus, supports relevant campaigns and runs regular social events. Email lgbt.society@newcastle.ac.uk (only the committee have access to this) or connect on social media:

Play with Pride

NUSU has partnered up with the AU Officer and Give it a Go to create the ‘Play with Pride’ initiative which is taking place from the 22nd to the 24th February. This aims to showcase the current inclusivity offer that our clubs have and work to better the understanding from clubs around the barriers to inclusion and enabling further support to their LGBTQ+ members. Visit NUSU’s event calendar to view all the ‘Play with Pride’ taster sessions coming up this week!
