Wellcome Trust Translational Partnership Events

The Newcastle Translational Partnership will be holding a series of workshops aimed at providing useful tools and skills for researchers at all career stages and disciplines across the university.

 

Idea Generation and Collaboration Workshop 21 April 2023

A fast paced, intellectually stimulating and highly interactive introduction to creating the right environment for idea generation.

  • Learn how to think big, spot new research collaborations, solve tricky problems, and generate ideas.
  • The session is designed to build confidence, creativity and connections with a focus on recognising possibilities and thinking with a strategic and creative mind set.
  • Participants will begin to build a toolkit of idea generation, concept development and creativity techniques to drive innovation.

The workshop will be facilitated by Eleanor Saunders from Skillfluence. This in person, full day workshop will be held on 21 April 2023, 09.30 – 16.30 in G21/22 in the Devonshire Building. Interdisciplinary Collaboration Workshop 12 May 2023

The UK funding environment is changing, and funders are increasingly looking to support interdisciplinary research projects. This workshop aims to provide researchers with the skills and tools to work in an interdisciplinary manner. A multidisciplinary approach requires a combination of skills, including a willingness to learn about other disciplines and being open and creative. Learn the skills required for interdisciplinary working and the tools and techniques that support communication when thinking collectively about complex problems. Participants will identify the skills they can bring to multidisciplinary endeavours and learn practical skills they can apply to support communication, collaboration and conflict resolution. The workshop will be facilitated by Jen Allanson from Skillfluence.

Working with Industry Workshop 27 June 2023

Gain a working knowledge of the critical business issues that impact commercial organisations. Understanding how to engage with industry can provide the edge in today’s competitive environment whether you are an academic looking to collaborate for funding, a jobseeker looking for opportunities or an entrepreneur building your own business. Participants will gain an understanding of what’s important to industry and learn to articulate their research in a business-centred manner to show how they can add value. The workshop will be facilitated by Dr Jennifer Rao-Williams from Skillfluence.

Communicating with Industry Workshop 28 June 2023

Researchers learn a practical communication framework and tool kit that will make them immediately more effective in industry-centric communications. This helps participants engage more confidently with businesses, translating their research and academic experience in a way that is relevant to businesses. Participants also learn how to network with purpose and create their own value proposition. As a result, participants realise an increased level of confidence, empowering them to pro-actively engage with industry. The workshop will be facilitated by Dr Jennifer Rao-Williams from Skillfluence.
