Prayer and quiet spaces on campus

Newcastle University is known for its multicultural community, with its vibrant mix of beliefs, faiths and cultures. The University has staff and students from all over the world, making it a diverse and inclusive place to work and study.

The University provides a number of spaces for prayer and reflection on campus to serve its community. With the Business School being a short walk from the main campus, we wanted to ensure there is adequate space for our community on this side of the city.

Through our student-staff committee, as well as conversations with staff and our Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, we discussed creating a new prayer space at the Business School.

As a result of these conversations, NUBS 3.08 has been converted into a dual-use space which can be used for quiet study or for prayer, meditation and quiet reflection.

Spaces on the Helix campus

  • Business School – NUBS 3.08 (dual-use space)
  • Frederick Douglass Centre – G.51 (also includes a chair for breastfeeding)
  • Urban Sciences Building – 2.027 (a key is required from USB reception)

Spaces on main campus

  • King George VI Building – Prayer Space (University smartcard required for access)
  • Henry Daysh – 2.48 and  7.21
  • Baddiley Clarke – 2.271

Provide your feedback

We have created a form so users of the new space in NUBS 3.08 can provide their feedback. We are always looking to improve our facilities so welcome any thoughts.
