Japan UK Research Workshops – 6-9 May 2025 (Just Transitions to Net Zero)

The next Japan UK Research and Education Network for Knowledge Economy Initiatives (RENKEI) training days taking place 6-9 May (Tuesday 6th May in Newcastle, 7-9th May at Durham University).  The aim of RENKEI is to forge research connections and initiate collaborations between Early Career Researchers in the UK and Japan.  The programme is open to ECRs from any discipline working on research related to Just Transitions to Net Zero, specifically around the following themes:

  1. Just Transitions in urban environments
  2. Just Transitions within industries and sectors
  3. Just Transitions and policy impacts
  4. Climate Justice: Unequal access to clean and affordable energy and green finance
  5. Managing Just Transitions to improve public health and address public health inequalities relative to climate change injustices.

The International Office are turning to us to nominate appropriate ECRs.  They are keen to have researchers from a range of schools (and if possible covering all five themes). We have a maximum of 4 berths for ECRs. Places are also available to mid/senior career researchers interested in collaborating on these themes too and willing to take a mentoring/support role in the sessions.

Please do  share around your schools and let James Annesley have nominations on or before 5.00pm on Friday 28th Feb (sincere apologies for the tight turnaround).   Nominated ECRs are asked to complete the attached form, explaining their motivations and what they hope to gain from the session (350 words max), adding the name of the colleague who nominated them (likely the School’s Director of Research).
