UKRI Launches Virtual Site and Outlines Activities for COP26

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has launched a dedicated virtual site and outlined the activities it will undertake before and throughout the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in order to showcase UK and international research efforts to highlight and combat climate change.

COP26 is taking place from 31 October to 12 November at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow. It is the largest meeting convened by the UN and will unite world leaders to focus on climate change and the measures countries around the world are taking to tackle it.

UKRI will be present throughout the conference to demonstrate the role and impact of research and innovation in climate action; showcase the work the research community has done over the past 50 years to understand and advance climate science; and demonstrate what research and innovation can do to help ensure the 1.5°C global warming target limit set out in the Paris Agreement can be attained.

UKRI will hold events and exhibitions with national and international partners throughout October and COP26 to engage audiences with examples of work that aim to accelerate the social, economic and cultural change necessary to reach ‘net zero’.

UKRI and partners will be physically present at the conference in the COP26 green zone and will be contributing to discussions and key activities across both official zones. UKRI has also launched a virtual event site, open to audiences across the world, which provides access to events and information to inspire, connect and celebrate climate collaborations.

UKRI Strategic Lead for COP26 Alison Robinson said:

‘Through COP, we want to inform and inspire the public, businesses, researchers and governments on how to take climate action.

‘We will build momentum for the change we need and catalyse the global partnerships needed to share knowledge, focus effort and generate solutions.’

The UKRI COP26 virtual event site is available here.
