Summary of latest global research opportunities

1. (GHS) Gerda Henkel Stiftung: General Research Grants: Scholarships
Deadline: 17 May 2023

Applicants holding a PhD or who are eligible to be a junior professor in the historical humanities are invited to apply for these research scholarships by the Gerda Henkel Stiftung (GHS) The funding is granted to candidates wishing to carry out an independent research project alone. Eligible fields that this fund supports are: Archaeology, History of Art, Islamic Historical Studies, History, History of Science, History of Law, Prehistory and Early History.

2. Novo Nordisk Foundation (Denmark): Interdisciplinary Synergy Programme 2023
Deadline: 1 June 2023
Main applicant must have an affiliation (at least 50%) to a Danish University – the 1-3 co-applicants can be based anywhere. Research funded under this programme must aim at reaching novel insight through interdisciplinary approaches to resolve complex challenges in relation to NNF’s strategic focuses on medical sciences, life sciences, and natural and technical sciences with potential future applications within health or sustainability. If the application falls inside the Natural and technical sciences area, the applicant must explain in the application text how the topic has potential applications to health or sustainability
A total funding of up to DKK 15 million (£1.77m) may be awarded per project which may run for up to 4 years. The total annual budget of the programme is DKK 75 million.

3. ISPF UKRI – AHRC: India-UK research into creative industries and cultural heritage
Deadline: 8 June 2023

Apply for funding to build India-UK research collaborations within the fields of creative industries and cultural heritage. Projects will demonstrate the value of the creative, cultural and heritage sectors to both countries.

  1. JSPS: London Pre/Postdoctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers (Short Term)
    Deadline: 27 June 2023
    The programme is designed to provide researchers with first-hand experience of the research and living environment in Japan, whilst expanding academic exchange between Japan and the UK or Ireland.  Researchers from any field; Computer, Engineering, Health, Biological, Life, Natural and Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences etc. are eligible to apply. Awards will cover visits of 1 to 12 months.

    5. The Global Innovation Network Programme (Denmark): 2023 call
    Deadline: 15 August 2023
    Funded by the Danish government (launched in 2022) with the aim to support new and established networks, alliances and partnerships to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to societal and global challenges. The application must be anchored with a main applicant based in Denmark and focuses on collaboration with international partners outside of the EU and EEA – with the UK as one of the 12 prioritized countries.The grant funds expenses for activities such as travel, delegation visits, workshops and conferences for applicant organisations and for their colleagues in the UK and other partner countries. It is also possible to organise summer/winter schools for PhDs and postdocs as part of the applications.
    Each project can apply for 750.000k (£88.5k) with a total allocation of DKK 14.75 million (£1.74m) for this year’s call. No requirement of co-financing from UK partners (but it is of course encouraged).

    6. EC Horizon Europe: MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023
    Deadline: 13 September 2023

    The goal of MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD and who wish to acquire new skills through advanced training, international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary mobility. MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships will be open to excellent researchers of any nationality. The scheme also encourages researchers to work on research and innovation projects in the non-academic sector and is open to researchers wishing to reintegrate in Europe, to those who are displaced by conflict, as well as to researchers with high potential who are seeking to restart their careers in research.
